Hosted by: Restore the Mississippi River Delta; Weeks Marine, Inc.; and NOAA
20 participants max/ $35, includes lunch
Take a boat ride to an active marsh creation construction site and learn how NOAA and Weeks Marine, Inc. are building more than 1,200 acres of marsh using sediment pumped more than 10 miles from the Mississippi River. You will view newly created wetland plantforms as well as see previously restored sites. This project will support marsh plants and healthy wetland habitat, which can lessen the impact of future storms by dissipating wave energy. The project is designed to restore ecosystem injuries caused by the Deepwater Horizon spill through restoration in the Barataria Basin, where the greatest shoreline oiling impacts occurred. Plan for low impact boat ride and minimal walking.
